What is new around your home?
We just got a food processor that works! The first one we got didn't work and I had to take it back, but Bed, Bath and Beyond is so awesome they shipped us a brand new one for free! And we just did our taxes and are realizing how much better it is to be married :) Matt has been teaching more at the Junior High youth group and Kayla has been embarking on new yummy recipes with our new kitchen appliance.

What do you have planned this week?
Double date with the newly engaged Jamie Mora and Heather Friel! And showing our ceremony video to our families on Sunday evening at our tiny apartment!

Share a funny story from your family...
Kayla attempted to make pizza dough with the new food processor and yeah...apparently I should have read the directions more clearly. But it did sorta turn out :) The dough was sooo sticky that no matter how much flour I put down it stuck to everything. So when it was done cooking Matt had to pry the pizza off the stone with his super strength!

What will be your next family celebration?
uhh... our 5 month anniversary is April1!!

What did you have for dinner last night?
enchiladas, Kayla made them for the first time to redeem the pizza disaster from the night before and they were quite yummy!

What is the last movie you watched that you'd recommend?
Horton Hears a Who (it's not totally recent, but hey we're catching up)

What have you done as family for fun lately?
Had an epic cribbage tournament: the first one to win 9 games (Kayla won 9 but Matt was right behind her with 8 wins). Played sequence and rummikub (we have a lot of games and no TV=more family time!)

Josh and Sandra (because we are one flesh... however, it's Sandra typing)

How's the weather?
It depends on who you ask... I would say that it is a bit chilly even though the sun is out (but I am always cold). Josh would probably say "nice!"

What is new around your home?
Josh and I have decided to go to Russia this summer. God has given us a tremendous gift to have the opportunity to visit the dear friends that I made 2 summers ago. The Lord placed it upon my heart not to mention Russia to Josh since we got married in July and to wait upon him to bring it up. The Lord is not slack and truly has allowed me to be blessed and rewarded as Josh and I were asked if we would return. Josh subsequently brought it up to discuss and pray over and God has confirmed it! So, Lord willing, we will be going with Mark again this summer.

What do you have planned this week?
We have been working, mostly, but we have also been blessed to have Shruti (who is moving back to SLO area) come over for dinner. We are also having Sushi with Joe and Kristen on Friday night at Tsurugi's (I think that is how you spell it!)

Share a funny story from your family?
We got a cat and named him Lewis, after C.S. He has definitely been a source of entertainment lately. Need I say more? :)


What will be your next family celebration?
Josh's mom's birthday was last weekend and we surprised her up in Sacramento. We had lots of fun at dinner, the zoo in Folsom (with our nephews), and just visiting at home. Believe it or not, our anniversary is also coming up on July 5th (we will be in Russia for this.)

What did you have for dinner last night?
Last night, we had Shruti over for chicken sausage, yams, and salad. :)

What is the last movie you watched that you'd recommend?
COUNTDOWN: Jerusalem !!!! This is a movie that is currently in the new releases section at the video store and we really liked it. It is about the end times. It is a story of fiction placed during the Tribulation. I am not entirely sure that the film director's heart was set on the Lord, but some of the cast seemed to be. It was none the less encouraging for the excitement of the Lord's return!! Yay! He is coming quickly!!!

What have you done as family for fun lately?
It has been a strange new habit of Josh and mine to play LOTS of Boggle (the word game that you shake up the letters and try to find words.) On every Wednesday night, we play with Brian Anderson, and you can probably catch us doing it other evenings as well! :)

Josh: Taking care of his newly broken finger which means not as much guitar playing for a few weeks. He broke it at the men's conference playing 3 flies up!

We have quite a few major decisions surfacing lately. You can be praying for wisdom in how we can best bless the Lord in these scenarios.

New Chairs

We have been blessed with new chairs for the sanctuary. Last week Calvary San Luis gave us a call and asked us if we would be interested in their old chairs. As they described them, Pastor Tonye realized that they were the very chairs that we had in the Bible College. What a praise, not only has God blessed us with chairs, but matching chairs and on top of that they were free!!

For those of you who are going to miss the theater chairs, there is no need to worry they are in the overflow room :)

Studs & Duds: Shoreline Men's conference

(Mike Markovich writes about what took place at the Men's conference here at Shoreline two weekends ago)

"You cannot be a stud if you make Jesus throw up" - Danny McCamish taught on Jacob and Esau and he compared Esau's lackadaisical approach to his birthright to Jesus' response to the church of Laodices, "so then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of my mouth". Pastor Tonye gave a sobering message about the life of David challenging us with 1 Corinthians 10:12 which states "therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall". Pastor Jack gave us a beautiful look at Joseph as we saw his uncompromising and predetermined integrity. We had such a sweet time studying the word of God, getting to know each other better, and... of course... eating! The high schoolers blessed us so much by offering their services to bbq for (which doubled as a fundraiser for their summer mission trip to Kenya). Praise the LORD for all that He did in the hearts of those who attended!

What is new around your home? 
Lack of sleep!! Sean and Stacey brought home the newest addition to the Rogers' family, Simon. He is keeping his mommy and daddy awake all hours of the night and day. Dakota is in her final semester of high school and can't wait to be finished. She is looking forward to the Sadie Hawkins dance this Friday. Elias is a bundle of four-year-old energy and a very helpful big brother. Britni and PJ are doing good, as well:)

What do you have planned this week?
Hopefully getting more sleep, doctor appt for Simon, SKC awards for Elias

Share a funny story from your family?
It happened a while back and I don't think our neighbor thought it was all that funny, but...there was a possum on our back fence that was driving our dog crazy and Sean went to try an knock it off so it would go away, well, he didn't know that our neighbor was standing in the open doorway of his house when Sean launched to possum right at him. I saw everything from the upstairs window. Keep in mind that in North MB the houses are really, really close.

What will be your next family celebration?
Our eldest daughter, Britni, will be 22 on Saturday!

What did you have for dinner last night?

Seriously the best meatloaf I've ever had, mashed potatoes, carrots, and a super yummy desert that I'm sure is healthy for you--it had oats in it!  (They are getting meals from Helping Hands)

What is the last movie you watched that you'd recommend?
Haven't really watched any movies lately. But Sean and I found parts of Madagascar 2 pretty funny.

What have you done as family for fun lately?
We took the train to San Diego and visited Sea World and the zoo.

How can we be praying for your family?
Healing for those that are sick, a hedge of protection from illness for those that aren't, the best possible transition and adjustment with our new son, and more sleep. Also, we would appreciate prayer for Simon's birthmother "K." A very sweet young lady who is really hurting.

Population explosion!

Just an update and picture of some of the mommies to be! There is talk that we might have to convert the Sanctuary into a new nursery! 

This is from Laurie's baby shower. She and Michelle are about 7 1/2 to 8months  along. I know Kristen is due in Aug and I can't remember when Nicole is due. So far two boys and one girl and one too little to know!

E6 Snow Trip 2009

Hi! This is an update about the E6 Snow Trip. They went up to Shaver Lake/(someplace that it snows and they can ski) a couple weekends ago. Since Brian isn't too keen on writing...we decided to make up a questionnaire for a few of the students and let them tell you about the trip. (If you want more information about the "snazzy pants" comment, ask Pastor Jack...)

What did the Lord teach you on this trip?
The Lord used this time to show me what it truly means to live selflessly and in an attitude of humility. A lot of new people came on this snow trip and I was able to serve some of these new brothers and sisters. I am so excited about the new people God has brought into the fellowship, and the different opportunities for encouragement and evangelism they bring with them.

Tell us one funny story that happened this weekend?
So last year, as you may recall, I was hit in the back of the head with an intoxicated snowboarder's rather hard board. Remembering this, I was expecting a repeat of head-trauma this year. However, I was not expecting to be accidently hit in the head with a shovel. We were having our annual snow fight and a shovel somehow came into contact with my head. A lot of laughs!
If you could describe the weekend in three words, what words would they be? Stretching, encouraging, and exhausting!
What event was the most fun? Skiing was obviously a blast! I got to teach Brandon to ski! Also, the night before we went home, there was a massive dance party. We formed a Conga line and danced through the whole house.
Tell us about your car rides... On the way home, I was in the "Newsies car". The whole time was spent listening and singing along to the dorky songs on Brian's ipod. I hate High School Musical with a burning passion and the girls in this car somehow got me to sing and dance to "Get Your Head in the Game".

What did the Lord teach you on this trip?
Brian's main point was talking about being a person after God's own heart. Personally what hit me was just being humble and submitting to not only the Lord, but to friends, family, teachers, etc, and that's something that I don't always do. In order to submit to them you have to lower yourself and be humble, which is an issue for me. In submitting to others, that's a step in becoming a person who is looking for a closer relationship with the Lord, because if you can't submit to others around you, how are you going to be humble towards the Lord? Also I learned that a sign of spiritual maturity is being humble towards the Lord, and its kind of weird because Brian (or one of the other leaders...they all look the same) touched on a bit of that obviously on the snowtrip, but again tonight at church. Also, I learned that calling Pastor Jack snazzy pants really made the trip better.
Tell us one funny story that happened this weekend?
Well, this is more of a command than of a question, but I'll let that question mark slide. Laura, Paden, and Myself were skiing towards the end of the day and decided we had time to go up one more lift, so we were in line waiting to go, and I was on the left end, Paden in the middle, and Laura on the right end. It was our turn to get on the next lift, and Paden goes way too far to the left (she was supposed to stay in the middle) and basically takes my spot which forced me to quickly adjust and go to the middle, which is hard for me to do when I'm on skis (newby skiier, its only my second time skiing, so don't judge me too much) and the chair starts coming towards us and Laura is too far to the right, I'm still trying to get to the middle, and who knows what Paden is doing, so none of us were in our assigned spots. The chair got to us and Paden didn't realize and Laura and I sit down, and Paden got her legs taken out from under her by the chair and ends up sitting on my lap until they finally stop the lift and let us re-adjust, and all our skis were tangled up, and it was just awkward for everyone involved, except for Laura because she didn't really even realize what happened, so basically it was only akward for Padsie and I.
If you could describe the weekend in three words, what words would they be? Pretty freaking epic. How about 6 words actually...Uplifting, Entertaining, LearningpracticalwaystowardsgettingclosertotheLord (one word).
What event was the most fun?
Well, since we only had four events, and one was the ride to the snow, and another was the ride back...going on the slopes was probably the best event.
Tell us about your car rides...
Well I started in Jeff's truck...lots of girls...cramped. But I convinced them to listen to Brian Regan, nuff said. After we stopped in kettlemen city and devouring two 4x4's from In-N-Out, I was back in Jeff's truck trying to make sure my stomach doesn't explode. We eventually stopped starbucks and I was put into the beast truck with Brian, earlier in his car rides he was asking people what the Lord was doing in their lives and stuff, but for this part of the trip he was paying attention driving in the road and stuff so he wasn't as talkative. I still had fun because I was able to talk to Paden and Kelsey and....some other people who I don't "exactly" remember. The rides back were kind of boring, but that's because we were leaving and going back home. Even though the ride back wasn't as fun, Xiane and I decided that we would make a band called Thai mmm to Rock (say it outloud a few times and you'll understand), and I'll be on lead vocals and drums, and he can play the electric triangle while singing backup vocals and we can have practices in his garage. When we make it big, you'll get a front row spot at our sold out concert...but it will be sold out so you actually will have to sit in the back...of your car...in the parking lot....two blocks down. We could give you backstage passes, but the backstage passes are strictly for Tom and Paul and the rest of the thai boat staff.

Thanks Brandon...we'll make sure to get tickets for that show...

Looks like the trip was a major success...with almost 40 people staying in the cabin, lets praise the Lord that it didn't fall down! =)
